Drill & Dimple

When the furnace died last week we had a furnace repairman come by to fix it. As he went through my "Aircraft Factory" to get to the circuit breaker box he asked "What are you building? An Airplane?" There was satisfaction that he recognized the assemblage of of aluminum. Being just the empennage he inquired to the size of the craft.

The clecoed Horizontial Stablizer

In the above view every other hole has been Clecoed

I then drilled out the holes to the full size with an air drill

Karma or should I say Plane Ma

The color of the spring on the drill stop is the same color as the cleco used in the hole. A very neat and convenient trick, to help prevent the wrong sized hole from being drilled.

Here is a posed shot of me Dimpling the Vertical Stabilizer Spar

Me in the work shop

Also a View of the Clecoed Spar

Shure is nice to cleco things together

Pre punch parts fit so nice

When I was at the dentist yesterday the hygienist said that her father in law had a plane in his garage, it was a 1938 racer that he had bought for the engine. It is now painted yellow and hangs from the ceiling of a museum, in Oshkosh!
